Mindy Webster
Alaskan woman drops a nice Alaskan moose

NAME: Mindy Webster

WHERE FROM: Soldotna, Alaska

HARVESTED: Swanson River Canoe Lake System

TYPE OF FIREARM OR BOW USED: Remington Sendero .300 Win Mag.

SPECIES TYPE: Alaskan Moose

SIZE AND WEIGHT: 56-inch spread, weight: more than my dog, less than my Grandmother!!

DESCRIPTION: While the world was in trauma, my fiance and I were in the middle of Alaska's great wilderness! At about 5:00pm of September 12, 2001, we decided to take our canoe through some lakes of the canoe system, in hopes of seeing a legal bull. We traveled back about six lakes in, and turned around so we could hunt our way out. As we entered the second lake away from our camp, I spotted my bull. He was at the edge of the tree line across a swampy bog, thrashing on some brush with his rack. With no other cover to hide behind, I got out of the canoe and walked up to a small bush about four feet tall. This put me at 300 yards away, but I was confident I could make the shot with my Remington Sendero. I waited until the bull turned broadside and then shot, hitting him in the lungs. He ran about 15 yards before falling down, and did not get up again.
