Erik Singletary
South Carolina Monster Buck

NAME: Erik Singletary

WHERE FROM: Sumter, SC

HARVESTED: Sumter, SC

TYPE OF FIREARM OR BOW USED: Semi Custom Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow in 270WSM using hand loaded 130 grain Barnes TSX bullets.

SPECIES TYPE: Swampy South Carolina Whitetail

SIZE AND WEIGHT: 150lbs, eight point

DESCRIPTION: This is the biggest deer of my life. I dropped off some fellow hunters for our afternoon hunt on the Poinsett Electronic Combat Range outside of Sumter SC, an USAF bombing range. I climbed up in my stand about 1600 and settled in. On the way in on a jeep trail I found two large scrapes, still steaming! I knew the buck was close and was stealthy as a B2 on the way in. After only 40 minutes in the stand I hit my rattle bag one time for about 30 seconds. No less than 5 minutes later this guy was spying from across the food plot to see who was scrapping in his yard. I spotted the taker rack through my binoculars and new it was then or never. At 140 yards the TSX did the deed. The buck went less than 75 feet and piled up. It turned out to be a great evening, we dropped 4 other 8 points and a 6 that evening.
