NAME: Justin Cherington WHERE FROM: Gilbert, Arizona HARVESTED: Salmon, Idaho TYPE OF FIREARM OR BOW USED: Browning .300 Win Mag. 180 grn Nosler Partition SPECIES TYPE: Black Bear SIZE AND WEIGHT: 6 1/2 ft, 250 lbs DESCRIPTION: I was on a hunt with Saddle Springs Outfitters. The bears were not coming into the baits during the day so we tried the dogs. After chasing the dogs for hours up and down huge canyons, the bear finally went up a tree. By the time we met up with the dogs the bear had jumped from the tree and was lost. The next day the same thing happened. We were afraid this bear would just wear out the dogs. On the last day of the hunt we decided to check one of the baits. I almost left my riffle in the truck but thought I should take it. Good thing I did since we scarred the bear off the bait as we approached. I was able to take the bear at 250 yards as it ran up the opposite side of the canyon.
