DESCRIPTION: On the last day of moose season, I had all but given up hope on taking a trophy and decided to take any legal moose to fill my freezer. Late that afternoon, I spotted a moose down in a valley bottom chasing cows around. I quickly closed the distance to him, but he spooked into the thicket. I grunted to him and thrashed the brush hoping he was looking for a fight. The tactic worked as he mistook me for an intruding moose. He grunted back at me and ripped small trees from the earth in a rut-induced rage. He worked his way around me to get my scent, but he made a grave error as he stepped into an opening 100 yards away. The first shot rocked him from his state of rage, and the second one anchored him for good. He measured 55 inches with 4 brow tines on either side and weighed about 1500 pounds.
