Dan Presley
Alaskan hunter drops MONSTER moose

NAME: Dan Presley

WHERE FROM: Anchor Point, Alaska

HARVESTED: Near Tustamena Lake on the Kenai, Peninsula

TYPE OF FIREARM OR BOW USED: Ruger 77 .338 stainless, 225-grain Trophy Bonded bullet

SPECIES TYPE: Alaska Yukon Moose

SIZE AND WEIGHT: 75 1/4-inch spread. Gross score was 254 3/8 and B&C score was 237 6/8

DESCRIPTION: We had drawn a permit for this area. My brother Keith, son Sean and I took seven horses in 22 miles to reach this area. God was watching over me, because on the first morning my brother and I rode up on this sleeping bull about 9am. With slightly drizzling rain, we saw a cow first and then the bull laying down about 75 yards away. He was facing away from us, so we got off the horses, tied them up and glassed him. Deciding this indeed was a huge bull, I stalked to within 40 yards and dispatched him with a single shot. He never got up, but thrashed around, and not wanting such a huge bull to get up, I put a security shot into his neck. That was the end of it. Three horses were need to pack out the approximately 850 pounds of bone in meat. We had to walk most of the way out, because the rack was so wide, it kept hanging up on trees, which I had to saw down.
