Stephen Perez
California hunter travels to Colorado for a mammoth mule deer

NAME: Stephen Perez

WHERE FROM: Westley, CA

HARVESTED: Trinidad, CO

TYPE OF FIREARM OR BOW USED: Winchester Model 70 .270, Remington 130-gr. Core-Lokt

SPECIES TYPE: Mule Deer

SIZE AND WEIGHT: 28-inches, 6 x 4

DESCRIPTION: We were hunting the eastern plains of Colorado near Trinidad in October 2002. The guide had spotted this buck before our arrival, but he eluded us for the first three days of the hunt. Right before dark on the third day we spotted him along with a smaller buck across a large sage flat, making a stalk very difficult. The bucks then made a move into a gully, which allowed us to close the distance considerably. It took two shots to bring the buck down, bringing an end to a very satisfying hunt.
