Moving On
Lee J. Hoots leaves the editorship of Petersen's HUNTING...this is his swan song.
By Lee J. Hoots
Life's path is ever winding, sometimes doubling back, and then rushing forward again. At the worst of times we have little or no control over the directions we take. In the best of times we have ultimate control, and we find ourselves in that " moving on" mode. This is the fortunate situation in which I find myself today. I'm leaving the editorship of Petersen's HUNTING to explore new opportunities in another part of the country. I have enjoyed my time at the helm of Petersen's HUNTING, as well as the other editorial positions I have held since joining what was once Petersen Publishing twelve years ago. Now, I would like to thank the many important people I have had the good fortune to know during my tenure as editor of this fine magazine.
To Kevin Steele--a person who has held most job titles in his publishing career and one of only a very small handful of current staff members who actually worked for the late Robert E. Petersen--I would like to say thanks for seeing some inkling of ability twelve years ago when you hired me.
Jim Bequette, editorial director and my boss for the past five years or so: Thanks, Jim, for the many things that you have done for me during the past two-and-a-half years while I've been editor of HUNTING. You have helped me achieve many goals professionally and personally.
Pryor Praczukowski, you are an artist with unequalled talent. Thank you for always wanting the very best for HUNTING magazine and for never giving up hope that the next issue would be better than the last.
Dave Dolbee, thanks so much for being a solid employee that I could always count on. And to your wonderful wife, Tier/Kimmy, your tireless ability to proofread and correct for a bunch of grumpy old hunters will be forever remembered. You made HUNTING sing!
To my dear friend Claudia Lopez, please accept my heart-felt thanks for your understanding and willingness to make changes and push deadlines so that our magazine could look and feel better than any other on the news stand.
And to HUNTING's senior production director, Connie Mendoza, thanks for everything you've contributed toward the betterment of each and every magazine I've had the pleasure to edit during the past twelve years. You are an asset to IMO, and to all your coworkers. Don't ever forget the good that you've done and the effort it has taken.
To the rest of the HUNTING staff, Carol Flores, Craig Boddington, Wayne van Zwoll, Duncan Dobie, Dick Metcalf, Layne Simpson, Greg Rodriguez, Terry Wieland, Guthrie, Jim McConnville and Bill Conklin, I count you all as good friends and wish you nothing but the best.
Lastly, and perhaps most important, I hope that you, dear reader, realize that without you, me and all these good people listed above would not be inspired to give you our best effort each time Petersen's HUNTING rolls off the printing press. Thanks so much. For everything.
