Steiner Predators
Steiner's Predator 8x32 is about the handiest binocular I've ever picked up. I used a pair last year to spot a bull elk at over a mile, find wild boars in low light and spy on turkey flocks in distant fields. Compact and light (5.7x5.1x2 inches, 21 ounces), they ride great in a binocular harness and are quick and comfortable to use. They're incredibly clear and sharp; resolution is outstanding. The kicker is the high-contrast lens coating that filters out green colors and maximizes reds--which helps you distinguish game from foliated backgrounds. While I think the 10x42 version would be a better choice for those who do a lot of long-range work, I believe most hunters will find the 8x32s to be just the ticket. Suggested retail: $600.
