New for 2006: Rifles that Roar

Browning
Browning has resurrected its classic T-Bolt .22 rifle, which employs a straight-pull bolt action, a free-floated 22-inch medium-sporter-weight barrel and a cut-checkered, satin-finished walnut stock.

Browning T-Bolt

The A-Bolt Stainless M-1000 Eclipse short-action centerfire features a matte-finish stainless receiver and a heavy stainless barrel. The thumbhole stock is gray laminate. It's available in .22-250, .308, .270 WSM, 7mm WSM and .300 WSM.

The newest additions to the BAR line include a ShortTrac and a LongTrac Stalker featuring matte-black composite stocks with gripping panels. Both feature European styling and matte-blue-finished alloy receivers. www.browning.com

CZ-USA
There's a new 453 bolt-action rimfire series in Varmint and American variations featuring a fully adjustable single-set trigger that can be adjusted down to two pounds. The 453 American has a 221?2-inch barrel. The Varmint has a heavy 21-inch barrel. Both are available in .22 LR and .17 Mach 2. Also check out the new UHR from CZ, a high-performance hunting rifle covered in this issue's "Tech Corner." www.czusa.com

Dakota Arms
Dakota Arms is offering a limited-edition run (202 rifles) of Model 76 bolt actions and Model 10 single-shots to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the .30-06 cartridge. Both rifles feature exhibition-grade walnut stocks, custom checkering and engraving. www.dakotaarms.com

Ed Brown Custom
Ed Brown Custom's new Model 704 bolt action features controlled feed but without the disadvantages of the long Mauser/Winchester-type extractor. It also has a counterbored chamber with the bolt partially surrounded by bolt-face steel. The Model 704's spring-loaded extractor is integral with the bolt and rotates with it. This places the extractor under the cartridge, just like the Remington design. The Model 704 action is being premiered on the Bushveld rifle for 2006, which has been completely redesigned with a new African-style stock. Planned calibers include .375 H&H, .416 Rem. Mag., .458 Lott, plus all the Remington Ultra Mag cartridges. www.edbrown.com

Kimber
Kimber's Model 8400 has been stretched a bit to accommodate standard-length cartridges such as the .270 Win., .30-06, .300 Win. Mag. and .338 Win. Mag. It's available with either a claro-walnut or Kevlar-reinforced synthetic stock. www.kimberamerica.com

Magnum Research
Magnum Research offers a graphite-barreled rimfire autoloader, the MLR-1722. It's available in .22 Long Rifle or .17 Mach 2 and can be had with a Hogue overmolded stock, barracuda laminated (forest camo, nutmeg or pepper) or classic walnut. All feature an integral scope base, target trigger and a bolt kit to match bolt speed to caliber. www.magnumresearch.com

Marlin
To take advantage of Hornady's new line of LEVERevolution ammo, Marlin has built a distinctive-looking laminate-stocked Model 336 Long Range .30-30 with a 24-inch barrel. Editor J. Scott Rupp got a sneak peek at one at a recent trade show and came away impressed by how well it handled and how good it looked and notes that guns like this--paired with the new ammo--may put lever actions back on the map for a lot more hunters.

Marlin 336 LR

The company is offering three new synthetic-stocked rimfire models. First is the Model 917, a .17 HMR bolt-action, clip-magazine-fed repeater with a sporter barrel. A variant, the Model 917VR, features a 22-inch heavy varmint barrel. Finally, there's the .22 Long Rifle Model 925, which features a sporter barrel and a seven-shot clip magazine. www.marlinfirearms.com
